The issue we have chosen to discuss is Facebook policies concerning students and faculty. Dealing with the students, we focused on athletic policies and the consequences of uploading pictures with alcohol or drug usage on their Facebook pages. Concerning the faculty we researched the problems with teachers being "friends" with their students online and the legal trouble that can follow.

Matt McKinnon researched the positive and negative effects of the faculty having a Facebook and MySpace. The problem with teachers and students interacting through social networking sites is that they often create un-professional relationships.
Samantha Carberry researched some school and sport policies concerning students and their Facebook and MySpace pages. The main issue with this being if an athlete has pictures posted on Facebook with either alcoholic beverages or drug related substances the consequence results in suspension from the team and also the school.

We first discussed the origins of Facebook and how it was designed for college students only. Then Samantha discussed her topic which is about the student athletes and the consequences of their actions on the Facebook and MySpace networks. Then Matt discussed his topic which deals with the positive and negative effects of the faculty having a Facebook and MySpace pages. Finally we will talk about two situations dealing with student athletes within our high schools.
